March marks a very special time for all of us at the United Children’s Music Project — it’s our 13th anniversary! Since our founding in March 2012, UCMP has been transforming the lives of children and families in our Hudson County community.

To celebrate, we declared March as UCMP Month! We have been commemorating our journey with special activities each week. Stay tuned for updates in our social media channels and thank you for being part of this musical movement!

UCMP at The Juilliard School's Music Program Fair

We spent an inspiring day at The Juilliard School’s Music Program Fair on March 8th! It was an amazing day connecting with aspiring young musicians attending the Juiilliard Music Advancement Program (MAP) Open House. Several UCMP students had the incredible opportunity to participate, immersing themselves in this prestigious program and meeting talented peers from across the tristate area.

A heartfelt thank you to the amazing Juilliard MAP team for welcoming us—we’re grateful for the chance to learn, collaborate, and celebrate the power of music together!

Applications for the Juilliard MAP program are due on April 1st! Learn more here.

UCMP’s Founder & Executive Director Invited as Panelist at Cultural Conversation

We’re excited to share that UCMP’s Founder and Executive Director, Melina Garcia, was invited as a panelist at the New Jersey Arts and Culture Renewal Fund’s Cultural Conversation and Dinner on March 6th at Halcyon Restaurant in Montclair, NJ.Hosted by Lynne Toye and the Fund’s Board of Directors, this salon-style event brought together community leaders for an interactive discussion on the importance of cultural community and the challenges facing nonprofit and arts organizations today.

Melina had the honor of sharing the panel with Ezra Ezzard, Executive Director of Crossroads Theatre Company, and engaged in a meaningful exchange of ideas about the role of the arts in fostering connection and resilience. It was a fantastic evening where our Executive Director had the opportunity to meet inspiring people, reconnect with old friends, and collaborate with fellow advocates for the arts.

A special thanks to Lynne Toye and her team and the New Jersey Arts and Culture Renewal Fund's Board for the invitation and for organizing such a thoughtful and impactful gathering in support of the arts!

A Visit from NJ Symphony’s Thierry De Luca

UCMP welcomed New Jersey Symphony violinist Thierry De Luca on February 5th, when he led our Chamber Orchestra and shared his inspiring journey as a musician. His stories of perseverance and passion left a lasting impression on our students, and reinforced the importance of dedication and love for one’s craft.

Introducing UCMP Academy!

Last month, we launched the UCMP Academy, a newly created initiative designed to provide musical training to everyone of any age who ever wanted to learn to play a musical instrument!

Taking place on Saturdays at our 4710 Park Avenue program space, UCMP's Academy was established to meet the growing demand for our music classes in our local communities, and to ensure that more area children and adults have access to structured, high-quality music education. Through specialized instruction, and performance opportunities, UCMP's Academy will help shape the next generation of musicians and leaders.

UCMP Academy represents our commitment to deepening our impact in Hudson County. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting new program and how it will enhance the musical journey of people in our area.
